Going to close out the "night" with a picture of my grandfather, sent to my grandmother. with inscription intact.

I do come from a sea-faring family!

Wonderful posts, the last few!
I've been on a patriotic high for several days and that's a hell of a top-off! I remember Whitney's version of the Banner (who doesn't!) Regardless of her recent travails, she sure made that song hers, then. Her Mom's voice wasn't too shabby, either...
I had never heard Marvin Gaye's version. That is a treat! I sure do miss him...
I got outside at midnight Sunday morning and did my customary a capella rendition at the top of my lungs, with the sound of fireworks in the distance. It was transcendental...
Navy in my family, too...
Sweet! From an ordinary guy, thanks, Carrie, and cheers --- "To the people!"

BTW, who says we liberals don't love America!?!

Yeah! Who says? I know we came of age of the "pig" era (name for cops, or police officers back then), and not to say I'm a die hard fan now, but I just think to dismiss law enforcement (and hence pretty much all first responders) should not be a knee jerk reaction, especially after 9/11 heroics.

The funny thing is that I get mostly patriotic in my "sports." I'm not a global sports person cuz, come on, I watch NHL, NFL and MLB (ok, SOME NBA), and rarely watch MLS, so I'm more state and city patriotic (laughing).

I do cry at a perfect rendition of The Star Spangled Banner, and some of America's most patriotic songs.
