I've been a huge fan of EarthCams for a number of years, now. Every New Year's Eve, I like to stream from Times Square. Especially as I get older and drunker, and find I can't stay up to midnight in my own time zone!

Notice how the whole event is designed for TV now? Red hats & foam thingies are handed out to the crowd, which is then divided & herded into fenced in areas. The official reason given for this is "security," but they're really just "extras" in a media extravaganza. I blame Dick Clark, with his "Rockin' New Year's Eve" phony party show that's pretaped weeks ahead of time back in Hollywood, for showing how the whole thing could be manipulated, packaged & sold to sponsors.
