The Helen Thomas Affair

Over here at my bar and grill, you can express a variety of odd sentiments (unless, of course, you go after me personally, then I just delete your comments).

I'm going to make may comments about the "Helen Thomas Affair."

First, I'm not going to jump on the bandwagon and say she got what she deserves like the rest of the media whores. Reading Dana Millbank, Ari Fleischer, Ann Coulter, and even Digby make that sort of reference just gets my craw, especially in light of the fact that these people (with the exception of Digby) have all said equally preposterous comments about Arabs and Muslims, Mexicans, and in Ann Coulter's case, even Canadians.

There has been hateful rhetoric in this country that has been escalating over the past 10 years. Very few people are losing their jobs over it, at least not those in the high ranks of say Ms. Thomas. Rush is still on the air with his evil rantings. Beck is still on the air spewing stupidity to the Foxites. Hell, after the flotilla attack, even I suggested that if Israel can't make nice with its neighbors, maybe they should just leave. It was more a sentiment then an actual idea, because DUH, where WOULD Israel go?

Helen is almost 90. I'm sure she can rest and relax on her savings and retirement, and not have to deal with the daily routine of trying to light a fire under our leaders, and pull a scrap of truth from Washington's ass.

It's a sad day when the White House Correspondents' Association disses Helen but tolerated Jeff Gannon. Washington is NOT the better for Helen Thomas being drummed out of the pit of hell. It just means that less transparency will continue to dominate our government vis-a-vis the press.

Funny that Pat Buchanan is still welcome to make his even more outrageous statements on a regular basis.
I'm really going to miss Helen...she is the damn near the last of a dying breed of REAL journalists and reporters.
