Drop the puck, already!

It’s hockey season. Back in the day, I had season tickets to the Dodgers and the Kings. The seasons overlapped in April and October, when both baseball and hockey would enjoy the start and end of their respective seasons. It was kind of like a year-round sports pig thrill kind of thing.

As with all corporate interference, I finally rejected sports. I was very bothered when the O’Malley family finally sold their interest in the team, to Murdoch, if my memory serves me. Then I dumped my Dodger tickets after the 1994 shut down that produced no World Series that year. In fact, I didn’t even attend another baseball game until sometime in 1998, and I continue to this day to ignore baseball as a whole, despite my love of the sport.

Hockey, even though it was also shut out in 1994 (man, October sucked that year), I hung onto my seasons even after the evil conglomerate AEG bought the team and moved it to their trophy house, Staples Center. However, sensing that we season ticket holders had been lied to (another post I’m sure I have somewhere on here!), I said adios to the Kings in December 2000, giving away the rest of my season tickets. I have not been to a hockey game in seven years, that’s how mad I’ve been at AEG’s purchase of this team and it’s handling of it.

The best part of it for me, though, was that I spent literally pennies compared to what my season seats cost me, on the television NHL Center Ice package, and now I watch all the teams play, every day. And, I don’t have to pay for parking, I can hit the bathroom when I want to with no one holding me up, and best of all, the food at home is a hell of a lot cheaper then at any stadium!
