Just The Way You Are

I am pissed that my music upload program is malfunctioning, and it is early morning so I am not prone to work the new program. Damn it.  What the fuck is wrong with the program I've used for five or more years?  Shit, fuck, damn it, is all I can say.

Instead of Christmas music, bringing you some YouTube videos of songs I have that I would have gladly shared via a music upload program such as DivShare (piece of shit, cough, cough) program.

Bruno Mars

I love this dude, seriously. As an artist, performer, and whatever.  What I would give to be 40 years younger (laughing ...)

Gangnam Style

OK, so I succumbed to the Korean phenomena Psy.  What up?

At least I have a tangential connection to Korean lifestyle, damn it !  Still, it blows me away that this video has become the all time, number one You Tube video.  Strange.  Gotta hit the bowling alley with my Korean friends ... see ya.

(DivShare is fucking up again. I found a new program to upload my music, and will be trying it soon).

Larry Hagman RIP

Wow, I thought JR would live forever.

Although I was not watching the new show, I was a HUGE fan of DALLAS back in the day.  I don't know about you, but I sure wanted to know "who shot JR?"

RIP.

My Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving day was a solitary event for me this year.  I had a Marie Callendar's turkey pot pie, with a salad, and a Marie Callendar's peach pie with whipped cream for desert.  There was no family in attendance, nor was I invited to any family get together(s).  That, in and of itself, has not been unusual for me as I generally do not celebrate the holiday with extended family.  However, my immediate family, consisting of my daughter, my grandson and I, always had some type of dinner together.  Sometimes we would have other friends over, and sometimes we would just go out to dinner.  This year, I did not hear from either my daughter or my grandson.

Par for the course, I guess.

I put up some of my Christmas decorations.  While I did not decorate the house, per se, I did put up my rather elaborate and growing Christmas village collection, and brought out my Christmas dinner ware.  Aside from that, I added a few decorations here and there, put out the welcome mat and the door hanger, and the Christmas kitchen towels and pot holders.  I do not anticipate getting a tree this year.  It is not in the budget, especially since I don't have funds to buy anyone a gift.  Food is generally a priority (and of course, toilet paper).

Even though I am not sure if I will have my rent for this month, or will be in the apartment come Christmas, I put the decorations out, as a show of good faith.

Amy Winehouse Christmas Memories

I was (am) a huge fan of Amy Winehouse.  Her demise hit me very hard, almost as if she were actually a family member.  To be sure, I was more sad about her death than I would be over some in my real family.

This is a precious recording of Amy, doing "I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus."

Enjoy ...

"Blue Christmas" Space Age Bachelor Pad Music Style

For many people, this music, called Space Age Bachelor Pad Music, is an unknown genre. It harkens back to old television theme songs for others, and sometimes is referred to as "lounge" music.  I have always been a fan of this genre, and have a rather large collection of artists that make this type of music.

Esquivel (Juan Garcia Esquivel) was a Mexican musician that devoted a lot of time to this style of music.  I remember dating this guy back in 1998, and he had a CD by Esquivel entitled, oddly enough, Space-Age Bachelor Pad Music.  Sadly, my boyfriend did not enjoy the CD and was glad to pawn it off on me.  I, on the other hand, was excited greatly to have this CD, which had been released around 1994. The cover alone was worth it.

The Union Made Me Do It - The Story Of Hostess (NOT)

The "unions" were responsible!

That is the story the Republicans are telling, and they are sticking with it, the truth be damned.

And if you get your daily news updates from the "fair and balanced" Fox News, you will not know the truth of why Hostess is firing the 18,000+ workforce and closing shop.

This is the second time Hostess has looked to bankruptcy protection from creditors.  The first time around, the workers (unionized) agreed to concessions by a reduction in pay, as well as a reduction in the work force.  But, the problem really lay in the fact that "hedge fund managers" had gotten involved with the company, and Hostess was basically "Bained" by vulture capitalists.

What prompted the unionized employees to tell Hostess to go fuck themselves this time around was that while the company was trying to gut pensions and pay for the workers, the top four Hostess executives had given themselves pay raises of up to 80%!

So, for now, it will be the vulture capitalists (like a Bain Capital, and let us remember how much we learned during the presidential race, about how they work) who will be the only beneficiaries of a sell off of the assets of the company, as they fire the 18,000+ workforce.

Think about that the next time you watch Fox News and listen to them prattle on about how the employees of Hostess were "hosed" by the union, and realize why Fox News watchers are more stupid than the average person who does not watch news at all.

To read all there is to know on this, CNNMoney has a rather lengthy screed, well worth a read, especially if you traditionally get your scoops from Fox News.

UPDATE:  11/17/12 Courtesy Sacramento Bee

In a desperate attempt to break the solidarity and resolve of striking BCTGM members across the country, Hostess Brands is falsely claiming that its decision to close three of its bakeries -- St. Louis, Cincinnati and Seattle -- is the result of the nationwide strike against the company by BCTGM members.

[snip]

Over the past eight years since the first Hostess bankruptcy, BCTGM members have watched as money from previous concessions that was supposed to go towards capital investment, product development, plant improvement and new equipment, was squandered in executive bonuses, payouts to Wall Street investors and payments to high-priced attorneys and consultants.

BCTGM members are well aware that as the company was preparing to file for bankruptcy earlier this year, the then CEO of Hostess was awarded a 300 percent raise (from approximately $750,000 to $2,550,000) and at least nine other top executives of the company received massive pay raises. One such executive received a pay increase from $500,000 to $900,000 and another received one taking his salary from $375,000 to $656,256.

Over the past 15 months, Hostess workers have seen the company unilaterally end contractually-obligated payments to their pension plan.  Despite saving more than $160 million with this action, the company continues to fall deeper and deeper into debt.  A mountain of debt and gross mismanagement by a string of failed CEO's with no true experience in the wholesale baking business have left this company unable to compete or survive.

Vince Guaraldi Trio - Christmas Time Is Here

Hello, Anybody Out There? The Republican Vacuum

It has been rather amusing reading up on, and watching television reaction by, Republicans who appear to have been caught by surprise that Obama (and other Democrats) won in this election.  Why?  I think that an important factor is the alternate universe these people have been living in.

I was watching CNN, Anderson Cooper's show, where he had David Frum and Mary Matalin on to discuss what they felt had happened to Mitt Romney and the rest of the Republicans seeking office, this election.  More specifically, Anderson parroted some of the meme floated by other Democrats in the media that, basically, the Republican electorate had been lied to by the Republican elite, ala Karl Rove and his heavily monied Super Pacs.  While Frum agreed with that analysis, it was rather interesting to watch Ms. Matalin completely discount that narrative.

I think the people were lied to, and many of us on the left have been yelling at our television sets and grinding our teeth over the obvious lie infested, truth averse, Republican hierarchy's factless narrative.  It is rather pleasant to see the right wing nutjobs squirming in their attempts to spin this election any way other than a total loss for Republicans.

Dazed And Confused

Republican Presidential candidate Mitt Romney was so confident of victory against President Barack Obama that he spent $25,000 for victory fireworks, had already drawn up a list of White House appointments and took it easy on election day when his opponents were still working hard to get out the vote.

Political insiders tell Capitol Hill Blue that Romney didn’t think he could lose and was genuinely “shell shocked” when he lost the Presidential race in an electoral vote landslide to Obama.

“He was supremely confident and delayed conceding the race as long as possible because he just didn’t believe he would lose,” says one senior aide.  “It was overconfidence based on inaccurate assumptions and flawed data.”

In conversations with campaign insiders, a portrait of a clueless campaign emerges, driven by a candidate so sure of himself that he ignored all the obvious warning signs.

Romney told his advisers that he was sure minorities and young people would stay home and turn out for Obama as they had in 2008.  That turned out to be a politically fatal assumption.  Obama drew 90 percent of a large black vote and more than three quarters of Latinos.  Asian-Americans also turned out in droves for the incumbent President.

The GOP nominee’s campaign advisers convinced themselves that the polls showing a close race were flawed and that the “true electorate” would give give Romney at least 330 electoral votes.

“They were living in a fantasy land,” says one long-time GOP strategist who asked not to be identified.  “They remained in a fog generated by their candidate’s massive ego.”

When the numbers came in election night, Romney was stunned.  So was his running mate, who couldn’t even carry his home state of Wisconsin.

The wives of both the Presidential and Vice Presidential candidates broke into tears.  Romney appeared dazed and it took a while for him to regain enough composure to deliver a long, rambling concession speech.

“Mitt is not accustomed to losing,” says one friend. “It was a bitter pill for him.”

A bitter pill, indeed.  I find it gratifying that I had no belief in the Republican spin going into this election.  My gut feeling was quite the opposite.  I had a sense that Obama was going to win, and win big.  I also believed that the Senate was going to gain Democrats, although I was pretty much resigned to the House remaining in Republican hands.

I am managing to watch Fox a few more minutes every day.  They are still on the Benghazi train, but let it never be said that Republican spinmeisters could let go of a flawed Democratic conspiracy theory.

Jon Husted Just Can't Help Himself - Gets Hand Caught In Cookie Jar Again

Jon Husted, Ohio's Republican Secretary of State, is responsible for confusion regarding voting in Ohio.  Husted first cut the hours for early voting in Ohio, but was overruled by a federal judge.  Then Husted defied the judge's orders, even going so far as to fire two election board officials (Dennis Lieberman and Tom Ritchie) who made it clear they were not going to follow Husted's refusal to comply with the judge, until the judge ordered Husted to appear before him.  That prompted Husted to allow the early voting as previously ordered.

Then, on the Friday before the election, Husted tried to pull a fast one again, this time deciding to make it the voter's responsibility to correctly fill in a provisional ballot form if the voter was facing a contested vote. This procedure was part of the poll worker's responsibility and, in fact, US District Judge Algenon Marbley had already put in place how the poll worker was to effect the contested voter's ballot.  So guess who got pissed off?  Yup, Judge Marbley.

THE COURT: Mr. Epstein, would you agree that voting is the linchpin of our democracy?

MR. EPSTEIN: Yes, Your Honor.

THE COURT: I do too. What concerned me about the 2012-54 directive is that it was filed on a Friday night at 7 p.m. The first thought that came to mind was democracy dies in the dark. So, when you do things like that that seeks to avoid transparency, it appears, then that gives me great pause but even greater concern. So, if anyone I’m going to give additional time to, it’s going to be you, Mr. Epstein, because you have a lot of explaining to do.
[snip]

Show me the facts that the secretary used to make the decision to change this directive at seven o'clock on a Friday night on the eve of an election.  I want to see it, and I want to see it now.  Show it to me.

MR. EPSTEIN:  Your Honor, I have no legislative history to present to the Court.
I, for one, would not relish being in Mr. Epstein's shoes! Read the transcript here.

As it turns out, Mr. Husted's attempts to pull the wool over the court's eyes were for naught as to this election.  As to future elections, Judge Marbley makes his ruling on Monday.

Hey, Rudolph!

Bryan Adams - Run, Rudolph, Run

Will Republicans Accept Reality Now?

Wow!  I am watching Fox News, Sean Hannity to be exact.  The spin on the election two days after is mind boggling.  First off, Sean likened the Obama win to a football game where the Democrats were guilty of all kinds of penalties and fouls, and he actually stated that "Obama" could have cared less that he was "cheating" in the football analogy, because in the end, the "win" was worth it.  What a bunch of fucking bullshit.  Is this where they want to actually go?  Then Sean and his guest, Bill Cunningham, decided to actually make the case that Mitt Romney really wasn't the kind of candidate they could get their minds around because, after all, he was certainly no Reagan.  They basically threw Romney under the bus!  That sentiment was followed by allegations that the Democrats, and Obama specifically, lied and smeared Romney.  Pulleeezzeeeeeee.  The person and party that lied were Romney and the Republicans.  Romney couldn't tell the truth about any topic even when he tried, for goodness sake.

Then you have the new meme apparently started by Rush Limbaugh, and that is the claim that Romney lost because 3 million Republicans stayed home and did not vote!

(banging head on keyboard)

Florida Goes To Obama

While ballots are still being counted in the state of Florida, a senior adviser for Mitt Romney's presidential campaign told the Miami Herald on Thursday that they are effectively conceding the Sunshine State and its 29 electoral votes to President Barack Obama.

I knew in my gut that the Republican talking points claiming the election was close, that Obama and Romney were virtually tied, and that Romney would win by garnering over 300 electoral college votes, was utter bullshit.  It's nice to see that my initial feelings about this election were right.  332 for Obama, 206 for Romney.

It's The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year

 49 days, and counting!

Years ago, the Christmas season started AFTER the Thanksgiving weekend.  In fact, the term "black Friday" always meant that the day after Thanksgiving, Christmas shopping started.  Nowadays, that term means the Friday after any major holiday.

Be that as it may, since most retail businesses begin their Christmas shopping season after Halloween, I am starting my Christmas song countdown.  Enjoy!

Andy Williams - Most Wonderful Time Of The Year

It's Official! NO MORE ROMNEY!

And Republican strategists predicted Romney was going to trounce Obama and get over 300 of the electoral votes.  How's that reality working for you, now?

Florida is trending Obama, and if it is called, that will be 29 more electoral votes to add to the 303 Obama already has.   How sweet a victory, 332 to 206.  Bite me, Republicans.

Megyn Kelly and the rest of Fox News are in denial!

UPDATE: 11/7/12 - NYT

John Weaver, a Republican strategist who worked on the presidential campaigns of Senator John McCain and Jon M. Huntsman Jr., has long argued that the party’s reliance on the votes of older white men was putting it on a demographically unsustainable path.

“We have a choice: we can become a shrinking regional party of middle-aged and older white men, or we can fight to become a national governing party,” Mr. Weaver said in an interview. “And to do the latter we have to fix our Hispanic problem as quickly as possible, we’ve got to accept science and start calling out these false equivalencies when they occur within our party about things that are just not true, and not tolerate the intolerant.”
Very true.  It will be interesting to see how the Republican party handles the solid rejection of their ideology.

The Romney Smirk - Don't You Just Want To Smack It Off His Face?

I have been trying to watch Fox News these past couple of weeks, in order to get a better understanding of the enormous gap between the right wingers and the rest of the sane world.  It is very difficult to watch for longer than 5 minutes at a time.  Seriously, very difficult.  The disconnect from reality is obvious from the very first utterance of any one of the hosts and/or guests such that it actually gives me a headache.  I am more than alarmed at the prospect that the "majority of Americans" actually buy the trope they are pedaling.  A part of me wonders if in the end, the votes tallied at this next election will be a landslide for Obama, not necessarily because Obama is the gift that keeps on giving, but that, in general, not many people are buying what the Republican party is selling.  On the other hand, absent any tangible proof that there is widespread tampering with the votes (a not too far fetched reality, to be sure), if it is close, or even if the worst case scenario materializes and Romney is elected, what happens when all of the junk that Republicans have been trying to do to the rest of us Americans as a people happens.

To begin with, those that support the Republican agenda, will be probably the first to realize in, oh, say about one year into the Romney presidency, that they are also a part of the 99% that the 1% don't care about, and despite their fervent belief that Romney and the Republican hierarchy care about THEIR interests, voila, uh, no they don't.  Health insurance? Cross that off the list, especially after Romney and his 1% cohorts do all they can to see that the ability for most Americans to be financially capable of having basic health care vanishes, and massive numbers of people are dropped systematically off the insurance rolls.  Free education?  Forget about it.  State by state, city by city, public schools will be gobbled up by private for profit groups under the guise of bettering America's schools, when in reality, it is again, the 1% lining their pockets off the backs of those that already had no money to afford school in the first place, now finding themselves caught between a rock and hard place regarding the education of their children.  Forced by laws mandating children attend school, and saddled by the inability to actually afford them.  And then we have those that get to use the so called voucher system that will find out after their children keep getting passed year after year that in actuality, those children do not know how to add and subtract, or even read, because the teachers that teach, bereft of unionization, are not actually qualified to teach! Next is the gutting of social services, which will put a tremendous strain on the economy as state by state, the number of people left by the wayside, unable to afford housing, buy food to feed themselves and their families, and STILL OUT OF WORK (because, let's not for a moment believe the bullshit of Republicans that they have a clue how to stave off unemployment, as they salivate at tax break after tax break that lines still only the 1% of their party, and not the mass numbers of stupid people in the poorest states of this country that will be adversely affected by a Republican United States circa 2012 onward), unable to even afford decent housing and become homeless.  Does it sound like I am foretelling a Domesday scenario if Romney and his ilk take office?  You betcha.

The lies, and I mean it very seriously, LIES that those that control the Republican party are telling their supporters (and by all means, please do feel sorry for those stupid enough to actually believe what the 1% of the Republican party is telling the rest of the 99% Republican followers) will unfold in such a ferocious and agonizing way that, in my opinion, will rock this nation to its core, and bring the 99% of we Americans to the brink of anarchy.  To believe it won't come true is to believe that the smirk that is ever present on Romney's face belies the fact that he is salivating at the prospect of destroying America and pillaging all that he can for himself and his cronies.  The man has no fear of taking this country down just for the sake of money.

The vacuum that is created by Fox News blows my mind.  The newscasters offer zero proof, and there is nothing by way of facts laid out for their outlandish claims.  I tried to match up Fox News with MSNBC because Fox and the right wingers continually claim MSNBC is a liberal bastion.  I wish! Be that as it may, most of the news analysis on MSNBC is presenting facts to combat the vast amounts of lies being touted by Fox News and other Republicans.  Whereas, on Fox News, it's just a bunch of bullshit, so outlandish that it boggles the mind that people actually believe this crap.  Just the other day, one of the guests touts this blatantly ridiculous theory as proof that Obamacare (hey, I just use the name, I didn't make it up) is socialism because the very first thing all socialist countries do is take over the health care of their country.  First, where the fuck did that come from, and second, where is the proof? She did not give any names of countries, any specifics, it was all general statements that go to the basic erroneous claim that Obamacare is proof positive our President is a socialist.  There was one woman on the show that was trying to get across what I would consider to be a Democratic point of view, (it was on Sean Hannity's show) but Mr. Hannity was having nothing of this, and repeatedly talked over the poor woman.  It was really hard to watch because there was no effort to be "fair and balanced" in the reporting. Anyone trying to point out the obvious untruth was simply mowed down with bullying tactics. No wonder these right wingers are so obnoxious -- they see it all the time on Fox News and I guess they believe this is how the rest of the world operates in a dialogue.

I still believe that Obama will take it all, both the electoral votes and the general popular vote.  I simply cannot believe that anyone finds the rude and obnoxious Romney up to par for the job of POTUS.  Bush was an idiot, and he more than bothered the left of the world, but Romney's smirk would be enough to galvanize even the most timid on the left to take up arms and go target practicing on his ass.
