Der Bingle - White Christmas

Christmas would not be the same without Bing Crosby's "White Christmas."

Holiday Inn. I think that movie is so much better than White Christmas.

"Holiday Inn" preceded "White Christmas" by more than a decade. I like them both, for different reasons.

"Holiday Inn" paired Bing with Fred Astaire, and I enjoy Astaire's dancing and Bing's singing. This movie had Marjorie Reynolds as Astaire's dancing partner, often confused by many as being Ginger Rogers. The plot is screwball comedy, with plenty of dancing and singing.

"White Christmas," on the other hand, starred Bing with the very talented Danny Kaye, and singer Rosemary Clooney. It also starred Vera-Ellen, who is famous in her own right, most notably in "On The Town" with Frank Sinatra, Gene Kelly, Ann Miller and Betty Garrett.

The musical numbers in "White Christmas" were more flamboyant, but given the vocal talents of Bing and Rosemary, very listenable. The dancing, on the other hand, stands out in "Holiday Inn."
